My Sea Week Writing.

For Sea Week we wrote about why the ocean is important. Here is my writing work. Please leave a kind, positive and thoughtful comment.

Why Moana are Important to  Aotearoa  The moana is important to my whānau and I.First, my whānau and I like going down to the moana to have whānau barbecues on the beach.  Second, I like going swimming in the waves and then swimming back to shore as fast as I can. Third, after we've eaten our kai we  go and play in the water or just swim in the water. I like having  sandcastle competitions with my whānau on the beach. That is why the moana is important to my family and I. The moana is important to Aotearoa. Lots of people have jobs that involve the sea. First, if you are are a fisherman you go out into the water and put out nets to catch ika and then if you get lots of ika you make money by selling the ika that you caught. If there was no moana the fishermen wouldn’t be able to make any money. Second, If you were a tour guide to look at marine life you would be able to make lots of money because you would be showing everybody on the boat the marine life and people pay lots to go out and look at marine life out at sea. If there was no moana there would be no marine life and tour guides would lose their job. Third, the moana is important to the Coast guards because they do most of their work in the moana. The Coast guards are like the water police. The Coast guard's check ships that go through the waters to see if they are trying to smuggle something illegal into Aotearoa. These are some of the reasons why the moana is important to Aotearoa. I think that people should think about our moana and stop littering. First, there is tons of rubbish in our moana because people are littering and leaving their rubbish on the ground and then it is flying into the sea. Lots of animals out in the moana are dying because they think that plastic bags are jellyfish floating in the water then they eat them and they can die. Second, fisherman are putting out huge nets and leaving them there for days. Lots of animals like dolphins are getting tangled up  in the fishermen's nets and then they can’t come up  for air so they drown. Third, the fisherman are taking too much fish out of the sea and they might only want 2 or 3 kinds of fish that are in their nets then they throw away all the other fish like rubbish. Dolphins and other animals are starving to death because there is no fish in the water. People need to try and fix these problems now and fast. There are lots of ways to protect our sea life. First, people could put all their rubbish into their bags or rubbish bins instead of leaving them on the ground and let it fly into the sea because animals are DYING!! Second, The fisherman could only take the fish they wanted and put the rest back into the water and only take the adult ones not the baby fish. Third, Fisherman could also use nets that let the baby fish swim right through but the adult fish would stay in the net and fisherman could take their nets out of the water more regularly instead of leaving them there for days. Those are some of the ways we could protect our moana. The moana is important to me, my whānau and people in Aotearoa because people and whānau’s love playing and swimming in the moana and having whānau cookouts and also lots of people’s jobs rely on the moana. I hope that our moana will be clean and rubbish free in the future.By Mackenzie
